Day 10: Crushing Sharing The Gospel

Laura Eldredge

Merry Christmas!! If you’re reading this, it’s likely that you’ve been given the most incredible gift – the gift of eternal life through Jesus. That makes you rich. And who doesn’t love it when rich people share?!

This is the gift that should literally keep on giving. But so many of us find every excuse to not do this one thing God made clear for every Christian to do. We fear rejection; we don’t want to “push” our beliefs on anyone. We don’t know what to say; we don’t want to risk feeling awkward or uncomfortable. We have our own problems to think about it. We have things to do…

Disclaimer - This might sound harsh. If we’re really honest, behind those veils of laziness, self-focus and insecurity, the truth is that if we aren’t sharing the good news of salvation through Christ alone, we either don’t actually believe it, or we don’t really care about people. Neglecting to share the gospel is neglecting to fulfill your purpose and neglecting to love people. But don’t worry; God is slow to anger and quick to forgive (Psalm 103:8)!

If you’re feeling unequipped or unqualified to share God’s grace with someone you love or even with a stranger this Christmas, here are some truths to call to mind and some tips to help get you started:

Truths:
• God is with you (Joshua 1:9).
• You have everything you need for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3).
• God can use anyone, including you (2 Chronicles 16:9).

Starting Tips:
• Listen, ask questions, and wait for an opportunity to share.
• Be confident – It truly is good news for all who hear (Luke 2:10).
• Just say something and pray that God will use it. “Do you have a faith?” … “Do you mind if I share with you what God has done in my life?”

Read the following scriptures and then answer the questions below.

Acts 4:20 – As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.

Romans 10:14b – And how can they hear unless someone tells them?

  1. Who were you before trusting Christ for salvation? (Did anger, lust, selfishness, unhealthy relationships or something else mark your life?)

  2. How did you come to know Jesus? (Who shared with you, Where were you, When was it, What happened that caused you to reach out for Jesus?)

  3. How are you different because of Christ? (You have eternal security, but what else has changed? Even though you still struggle, do you have more hope, joy, peace, healthier relationships, or courage?)

  4. Who in your life needs to hear the Good News? What has kept you from sharing so far, and how do you plan to share this Christmas?

Pray: God, help me to understand what you've done in my life and help me to passionate about sharing. Give me the courage to speak through fear, and help me to fear you more than anyone else. Bring the people in my life to a saving faith and give me the words to say to share The Good News of Jesus with them.
