Boy Meets Girl Finale (Jonathan Pokluda)

-JP's 7th wedding anniversary was this past weekend so he took his wife to Cuervo, TX.

JP took art lessons at a studio there when he was growing up. He had some ability, but he wasn't patient. He didn't like how long it took. He teacher would correct the mistakes he made while being impatient. Some of his favorite parts of those paintings to this day are the mistakes that were corrected.

Many of our dating/non-dating relationships are filled with mistakes that we want to correct.

There's only one semi-example of dating in the scriptures, i.e. Someone liking someone else for a period of time without getting married.

-Esaw and Jacob (Deceiver)

- Jacob deceives Esaw into giving him his birthright.

-Jacob deceives their father into giving him a blessing instead of Esaw.

-Esaw wants to kill Jacob

-Jacob runs from Esaw and sets off to find a wife.

-Jacob runs into Rachel

-Jacob immediately shows off to Rachel by moving a rock, kissing her,and weeping aloud.

-Jacob worked seven years for Laban (Rachel's father) in order to marry her.

Love can be a strong motivator. Love motivated Jacob to work, hold out, and not compromise. Delayed gratification.

We want what we want and we want it now. The pond that we can fish from is small (finding someone who is pursuing God).

Do you know what you're looking for, and how will you know when you find it?

-After the seven years Jacob got impatient.

-Laban switched out Rachel for his other daughter Leah (who had "weak eyes") in Jacob's haste.

-Jacob also married Rachel and loved her more.

-God opened Leah's womb, but Rachel was barren.

-Leah hoped that she could win Jacob's affection by having children.

This story is very sad.

Lust is anything we desire more than God. Lust makes a mess of things. They are untamed desires.

God sometimes puts people in our lives who are just like us, so that we can see how intolerable we are. Laban was placed in the life of Jacob (deceiver).

Genesis 29:35

And she conceived again and bore a son, and said, "This time I will praise the LORD." Therefore she called his name Judah. Then she ceased bearing.

+Jesus was descended from Leah via Judah.

+We need to trust God.
