Gary Haugen, President of International Justice Mission (IJM)

Two responses to fear:

• Seek to be safer

• Seek to be braver

Jesus is in the business of making His people braver.

Do we want to be safe or brave? We can't be both.

Jesus says over and over in Scripture that we will suffer for following Him. We will avoid sin-related suffering, but experience an entirely other set of suffering.

Two things that are dangerous:

• Telling the truth

• Loving needy people

If my love and following doesn't feel dangerous, I need to check if it is Jesus that I am following. God is calling us into a difficult game.

Violence is different

- it is intentional

- it fights back

- it leaves deep, deep scars
